TimBit

  • 2025

TimBit joined our family in March of 2023.

I follow Chalkmaster Dave on Facebook and became very interested in the wellbeing of TimBit when Dave started posting about him. I discussed with my husband Roger and we had both agreed that we NEEDED to welcome TimBit into our home.  Our old Chocolate Lab, Chester, was still with us at the time and we figured that TimBit would be a great addition to our family.

The adoption process with Elderdog was so smooth and the next thing we knew, Dave was arriving at our place to bring us our TimBit. He settled in very nicely and he and Chester became best friends. Chester showed him the ropes around here and was basically the one who trained TimBit to not leave the yard. It was a little hectic with our cat. Teddy Bear but, within two weeks, they also became great friends!

TimBit loved it all!  From car/truck rides, to relaxing by the fire in the garage on his couch with his blanket, to chewing his sticks/large pieces of wood, to chasing four wheelers and skidoos in the back yard. Yet, he was also just as content sleeping on his side of the couch in the living room! We soon realized that as much as we rescued TimBit, he is the one who sort of rescued us.

Sadly, in June of that year, we had to say goodbye to Chester. It was one of the hardest things we ever had to do. Thankfully, TimBit was here with us and consoled us immensely. I swear to God he was part human.

A year after we adopted TimBit, we noticed that his hearing was not the greatest. The vet was able to confirm that TimBit had lost his hearing and that he was most likely quite a bit older than we all thought. We were still able to communicate with him through sign language. Again, TimBit never ceased to amaze us!

We only had 2-1/2 years with TimBit in our family, yet it felt like a lifetime. The joy he brought to our family was immeasurable. He was truly an angel for us and we needed him in our lives.

He changed us…  He was our first ever rescue…  And we have vowed to continue rescuing in his honour.

He is home with us, on the mantle. The impression he has left on our hearts is huge.

We will be forever thankful to ElderDog and to Dave for allowing us to have the opportunity to love TimBit. We believe that he did live his best life while he was with us and that is what is keeping us going.

We will always miss him… He was a special boy! He will NEVER be forgotten!

I am convinced that he and Chester are having a blast over that rainbow bridge! 🌈
