Sophie

Sophie: 03-2012/04-2019

I am saddened to report that we lost our lovely Sophie very suddenly and unexpectedly at the end of April.

Sophie was loved by all who met her as she had the sweetest personality ever and loved to “chat” with everyone she encountered. Sophie loved to spend time outside romping around and exploring every inch of everywhere she might be.

Sophie was loved most of all by her companion, Ray. When he was transferred to hospice his brother contacted ElderDog to help keep Sophie and Ray together for as long as possible. To that end, we found a wonderful foster home for Sophie close by to ensure she could make the short journey from her foster mum’s to the hospice most every day. She was the light in Raymond’s day. You could often find the two curled up together for a quick afternoons nap, especially when days were rough for Ray.

Because Sophie gave Ray so much happiness, we were asked by the nursing team if she could perhaps do some overnights on a trial basis to help lighten her companion’s mood. We were all set for the big adventure when Ray took a turn. Sadly, the overnights did not come to fruition.

Very soon after, Sophie was diagnosed with a debilitating disease, had a short struggle with her illness but soon succumbed and passed away.

In her time with ElderDog, Sophie was lovingly cared for by Barb, her foster mum, for many, many months and then was moved to a new foster family who simply adored her! Sophie passed surrounded by those who loved and cared for her deeply. RIP my friend!
