Bear

You came into our life like a little spinning top. It was love at first sight. You were 9 years old & weighed 10 pounds. You had to leave your family because your Dad had dementia. And so through #ElderDogCanada and #AlzheimerSocietyNovaScotia you found your place here. Your second Dad had dementia too but you knew just what to do. Our days were brighter because of you.

Then the clouds came and you lost your second Dad. We only had each other but every day we both got better. Your love & magic charm would see me through.
Oh! Thank you Bear!

The clouds came again these past weeks. This time it was all about Bear. You had slowed in your senior years. Arthritis had made its presence known but you were doing well. The clouds darkened – cancer. Darker still – too advanced for treatment.

You were my brave little boy, Bear.
We said goodbye quietly and gently yesterday afternoon (Wednesday July 31 – the last day of your ElderDog Calendar month) in the caring embrace of Baddeck Veterinary Clinic.

Run free my special little man. Your 2 Dads are waiting for you just over the Rainbow Bridge.

I hated to let you go I loved you so.

Thank you #BaddeckVeterinaryClinic, Dr. Jamie Campbell and especially Dr. Donna Buckley who’s kindness & support enabled Bear to safely find the path home.
