Cody
In Loving Memory of Cody
Cody’s story is one of loyalty, survival, and the quiet love that ElderDog exists to protect.
Two years ago, Cody was found after escaping through a window in the home where his person had passed away. He stayed faithfully by his side until he no longer could, and then, with the last of his strength, made his way into the world in search of help. He arrived thin, thirsty, and grieving, but still gentle, still trusting, and still willing to lean into kindness.
ElderDog welcomed him into care, offering safety after many days of fear and confusion. With the care of ElderDog fosters, Cody began to heal. His ribs filled out, his eyes brightened, and his spirit opened again. He was fostered with love, and soon adopted by a family who adored him. For two beautiful years, Cody lived the life every dog deserves: warm beds, familiar voices, and people who cherished him.
Sadly, Cody has now passed away, held in the same love that carried him from heartbreak into belonging. He left this world gently, wrapped in familiar voices, steady hands, and the soft peace he had so richly earned. His final moments were quiet, dignified, and surrounded by love. We take comfort in imagining him reunited with the companion he never stopped loving, walking together once more, free from pain and held in the light of enduring love.
Run gently now, sweet boy – back toward the person you loved first. You were cherished.
Cody’s journey reminds us why ElderDog exists: to honour the bond between older adults and their dogs, and to ensure no dog’s story ends alone.
